Che Nah, or Wood House

At the woodshop Che Nah we produce designer furniture, sculptures and handcrafted figures. We recover and reuse wood that many would consider waste, or simply a small and useless piece of wood. We create practical-use concepts, artfully crafted taking in consideration color and grain of the tropical precious woods found in Quintana Roo, famous for their hardness and durability, gaining a marvelous result that will make a furniture for a long lifetime.

The main vision at Casa Madera is to innovate and create an ecological, artistic, and sustainable place, while offering a high quality product for tourists of all nationalities.

We produce mainly wooden bowls, cutting boards, wooden plates, mortars, spoons and spatulas, as well as furniture by design: tables, chairs, and multifunctional objects.

All our cooking utensils are treated only with mineral oil, which keeps the wood healthy and hydrated.

The finish in our furniture is accomplished by a home-made varnish made from beeswax, which provides many advantages over other varnishes: it makes maintenance easy, besides being not expensive and ecological.

Some of the woods used in our production are:

  • Jabin
  • Zapote
  • Katalox
  • Caracolillo
  • Granadillo
  • Tzalam
  • Palo de gas
  • Chechen
  • Cedar

“Kaax Kaab” Honey

This African bee honey is obtained from the savanna pollinating bees in the nearby Ejido de Juarez, where local plants producing delicious nectars can be found. Our honey is rich in both nutrients and antiseptic and healing characteristics, with an unusual chemical composition that keeps it fresh indeterminately. At Chaktunche Rancho Ecolodge we bottle our honey using 300 ml recycled bottles from the restaurant Chak Hanal. The price of the bottle is $5 USD, at the boutique.

Benefits of consuming honey:

  1. It improves memory.
  2. Helps heal cuts and injuries.
  3. Provides many nutrients.
  4. It is a great source of energy for exercise.

“Káax Nah” Orchard

At Chaktunche Rancho Ecolodge we are always involved in the reproduction and storage of endemic plants, local or decorative, for the reforestation of this vacation center or, using special permits, to help reforest other places, which have suffered from fires or deforestation.

The orchard is an ever-ongoing project. Today we have some varieties of fruit trees and spices. The kitchen at the boutique restaurant uses these agrochemical-free products as part of the cooking process.

We have mentioned before that at Chaktunche we mainly use organic products, agrochemical-free. We buy from Rancho San Jose those products not raised in our own grounds; however, the final goal is to be able to produce most of our food ourselves, making sure you have a whole culinary experience during your stay or visit, and also being able to offer you to take home some of our products locally made at this rancho in Puerto Morelos.

  • Lemongrass
  • Indian lemon
  • Avocado
  • Guanabana
  • Maax chile
  • Habanero chile
  • Spearmint
